By Paul Freeman. For The Daily News. New York choreographer Larry Keigwin managed to make Ravel not only ravishing, but relevant, when he presented his acclaimed 2007 production, “Bolero NYC.” It teamed his dance company with 46 Manhattan civilians. Keigwin has adapted the work and, on April 2 and 3, Stanford Live, in celebration of Stanford’s 125th Anniversary, will present the world premiere of “Bolero Silicon Valley” at Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall. Keigwin tells The Daily News what originally moved him to create this innovative work. “I have always been interested in that composition, ‘Bolero.’ It’s an iconic piece of music, for 15 minutes, by Ravel. But being that it’s so big, I didn’t know how I would fill the space. I thought, ‘Well, let’s accumulate bodies.’ So we auditioned 100 New Yorkers and then cast them according to the census report, because I wanted to make the dance about New York. I’m very much inspired by the city. But I didn’t want to cast dancers, because that’s not reality. I wanted to cast exactly the reality of the New York population.”.
