The free community party is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Daniel Villasenor, a Pleasanton recreation supervisor. “It will have a lot of family fun and events where kids can participate in past cultural activities,” he said. The gathering also will commemorate important Bay Area historical periods that took place on the seven acres of land at 3465 Old Foothill Road. In 2008, the site was converted into a $4.5 million park to be used as an interpretive facility where students and visitors can learn about the history of Pleasanton and the Amador Valley.

Council members Larry Reid, Rebecca Kaplan and Noel Gallo, all of whom support the lease deal, requested the meeting one day after Mayor Jean Quan urged council members to ratify the deal. The meeting will give the council its first chance to publicly discuss the lease deal and ask questions of representatives of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority, which negotiated terms with the A’s and approved the lease last week. “We need to bring the lease agreement before the full council to see if the votes are there to approve it and put this issue behind us,” Reid said. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the lease during its July 29 meeting.
